Wilfried Bony came back to hunt his former side, scoring twice as Stoke City defeated Swansea City 3-1 on Monday night to record their third consecutive victory to move up to 12th on the league table, while the Swans suffered yet another league defeat, failing to win since the opening day.

It took Bony just three minutes to eventually open his Stoke account, combining with former Swansea player Joe Allen to smartly finish. Swansea replied instantly within five minutes with a rare Wayne Routledge header beating Lee Grant from close range. The Potters could comfortably have had a healthy lead by half-time, but the post and crossbar twice denied Charlie Adams and Marko Arnautovic with the keeper well beaten.

Good work from substitute Ramadan Sobhi down the left forced Alfie Mawson into an own goal to restore the lead for Stoke 10 minutes into the second period. Wilfried Bony then struck again, heading in the third goal and his second of the night, from Joe Allen’s saved shot.

The win came at a cost for Mark Hughes side as playmaker, Xherdan Shaqiri went off injured early and it remains to be seen what the diagnosis will be. The wait continues for Bob Bradley’s first Premier League win.
